The Five Steps developed by Crime Watch Greenville

As you come to realize that neighbors need to help one another, you need to know what to do before you tackle the program outlined by the National Neighborhood Watch Program. Connect with Crime Watch Greenville to find if leaders in your area have already been established.

  1. Find your area's elected or appointed representatives. Follow step 2 and click on the link Get to know your elected representatives. How they spend the money they receive from you and what they prioritize directly influences your quality of life and the crime in your area. More detail on finding out about who your elected representatives are and how they represent our interests coming soon. Please check back. If we haven't done this by May 1st, then please contact us.

  2. Find your Precinct and Zone where you live. You can quickly find that by clicking here and clicking on one of the blue buttons. After you find your precinct with the real property search or scvotes.org tabs, look for your precinct and zone map by navigating to the map page on this crime watch website.

  3. Become informed: Use the resource links on the home page and check the crime and sex registry as well as download a local news app. The news app on the home page has a link for the crime stats. There may or may not be better resources to get your news, regardless, do try to keep up with what is going on in your area.

  4. This is combined in Step 3

  5. Step 5 is the most critical step: See below: Contact and subscribe to Crime Watch Greenville so that we can assist you organizing with GVL Sherriff's Office.

It is important to consider becoming a leader within Crime Watch Greenville by assuming the role of a Zone, Precinct, or Block Captain leader. There is no required experience necessary, only the willingness to help others. There is no-one way to develop a neighborhood crime watch. Much has been written about how to prevent crime. The only limits placed on your watch are the legal limits.

Why is this fifth step so important in wanting to fight Crime (of all sorts) in your Neighborhood?

ANSWER: - Because CrimeWatchGreenville staff will help you organize your neighborhood crime watch program and help connect you to the Greenville County Sherriff’s Office.

We help you connect with neighbors to set up the initial meeting place, time and schedule with the Sherriff’s Office.

We help you gather the “stats” discussed in this presentation to customize the event just for your neighborhood.

We help you setup “block captains” and “coordinators” to submit to the Sherriff’s Office so they can determine your assigned “Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Liaison” at the Sherriff’s Office.
